Split a PDF
Choose the pages you need, or cut the whole document into single pages or equal parts. A thumbnail of every page means you never pick by guesswork.

Your PDF is handled inside this browser tab and is never uploaded.
How to use it
- Press ‘Choose a file’ and pick the PDF. A grid of page thumbnails opens below, and the file row shows the page count and size.
- ‘How to split’ offers three modes: ‘Select pages’ for a hand-picked set, ‘Every page’ for single-page files and ‘Every N pages’ for equal blocks.
- For ‘Select pages’, click the pages you want or enter a range like 2, 5, 9-11 in ‘Pages’; ‘Select all’ and ‘Select none’ mark or clear every page. For ‘Every N pages’, set ‘Pages per file’.
- Press ‘Split PDF’. The result appears directly below the button.
- Press ‘Download’ if you got one file, or ‘Download all (ZIP)’ if the split produced several.
What it does
Click or type, your choice
Click thumbnails and the ‘Pages’ box fills in; type a range and the matching thumbnails are highlighted. The two stay in step, so use whichever is quicker for your document.
Scattered pages, one new PDF
In ‘Select pages’ the chosen pages are saved together as a single PDF, always in page order and without duplicates. Typing 9-12, 1-3 gives the same file as 1-3, 9-12.
One file per page
‘Every page’ writes one PDF per page, numbered with enough leading zeros to keep them in order in a folder. All of them arrive together in one ZIP, so a 200-page scan does not mean 200 separate downloads.
Equal parts, leftovers last
‘Every N pages’ cuts the document into blocks of the size you set. A 25-page file at 10 pages per file gives pages 1-10, 11-20 and 21-25.
File names that say what is inside
Each name starts with the original name and adds the pages it holds, as in lease-pages-1-3_6_9-12.pdf or report-part-2-pages-11-20.pdf. A ZIP is named after the original with -split added.
Copied, not redrawn
Pages go into the new files as they are, so text stays selectable and images keep their quality. Your original file is not changed.
Good to know
Splitting is how you send only what the other person needs: the signature page of a lease, one invoice from a scanned batch, a single chapter of a long report. ‘Every page’ fits a pile of one-sheet documents scanned in one go. ‘Every N pages’ fits a batch made of equal blocks, such as five three-page application forms: enter 3 in ‘Pages per file’ and each form gets its own file.
Type page numbers with commas between items and a hyphen inside a run, so 2-4, 7, 10-11 means pages 2, 3, 4, 7, 10 and 11. A range without an end, such as 5-, runs to the last page, and a number past the end of the document produces a message that tells you how long the PDF is. Spaces around the hyphen are fine, so 9 - 12 and 9-12 mean the same pages.
The new files are built from copies of your pages, so bookmarks from the original are not carried over. A password-protected PDF has to be unlocked first with Unlock PDF. If you would rather remove a few pages than keep a few, Organize PDF is quicker, and Merge PDF can stitch the parts together again later.
Questions and answers
How do I take one page out of a PDF?
Open the file with ‘Select pages’ chosen, click that page's thumbnail (or type its number into ‘Pages’) and press ‘Split PDF’. ‘Download’ saves it as a new one-page PDF.
How do I turn a scan into one file per page?
Choose ‘Every page’ and press ‘Split PDF’. You receive one file per page in a single ZIP, numbered in page order.
How do I cut a PDF into parts of 10 pages?
Choose ‘Every N pages’, type 10 into ‘Pages per file’ and press ‘Split PDF’. If the page count is not a multiple of 10, the last file holds what is left over.
How do I type a page range correctly?
Put commas between items and a hyphen inside a run, for example 2, 5, 9-11. A hyphen with nothing after it, as in 5-, means page 5 to the end.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. The tool stops with a message that the file is password-protected. Remove the password with Unlock PDF first, then split the unlocked copy.
Can I split a PDF on my phone?
Yes, in a current browser on a phone or tablet. Long PDFs with many thumbnails take memory, so a computer is more comfortable for very large files.
