PDF to Word
Bring the words of a PDF into Word so you can change a clause, correct a date or reuse a paragraph. Choose real text to edit, or pictures of the pages when the layout has to stay exactly as it is.

Editable moves paragraphs and headings into Word as text. Exact look places each page as a picture so it looks the same.
Your PDF is handled inside this browser tab and is never uploaded.
How to use it
- Press ‘Choose a file’ and pick the PDF, or drop it on the page. Its page count and size appear once it opens.
- Under ‘Conversion’, keep ‘Editable (text you can change)’ to get real text. Choose ‘Exact look (pages as pictures)’ only when the layout matters more than editing.
- To convert part of the document, set ‘Pages to convert’ to ‘Page range’ and type pages such as 1-3, 5.
- If the PDF is a scan, select the language of its text under ‘Text recognition for scanned pages’. English is selected to begin with.
- Press ‘Convert to Word’. The progress line counts pages as they are read. Then press ‘Download’ to save the .docx, which keeps your PDF's name: contract.pdf becomes contract.docx.
What it does
Paragraphs, not loose lines
A PDF stores every line separately, so copying from one leaves a break at each line end. The converter joins lines that belong together, judging by spacing and type size, and puts back words that were split with a hyphen. A bullet or a number at the start of a line begins a new paragraph.
Headings Word can list
Short lines set at least 20% larger than the document's body text become Heading 2, and those at least 60% larger become Heading 1. They are real heading styles, so Word's navigation pane can list them.
Tables stay tables
Two or more neighboring lines whose pieces are separated by wide gaps are rebuilt as a Word table with thin gray borders, one row per line. A single widely spaced line, such as a title with a page number beside it, stays ordinary text.
Scanned pages read as text
A scanned page has no text layer, so it is read with OCR (text recognition) in the languages you select and then goes through the same paragraph and table steps. A note under the button says how many pages were read this way. Those are the ones to proofread.
Exact look for stamped pages
‘Exact look (pages as pictures)’ draws each page at 150 DPI and places it as a picture on a Word page with no margins. Stamps, signatures and designed layouts look the same as in the PDF, but the words can no longer be edited.
Read and built on your device
Your PDF is opened in the browser, rebuilt there and handed back as a download. The original is never changed, and nothing about it is sent to a server.
Good to know
A PDF is a map of where each character sits on a page. Paragraphs, columns and tables are not part of it, so every converter has to guess them from spacing and type size. That is why letters, contracts, reports and manuscripts convert well, while brochures and posters do not. A lease that needs a new date or a reworded clause is a typical job: convert it, edit the text in Word and save a fresh PDF from there.
In editable mode the Word file carries text and tables only. Pictures, shapes, fonts, colors, bold and italics are not copied, and bullets and numbers stay as typed characters rather than Word lists. Text set in side-by-side columns tends to be paired up into a table. Page size and orientation follow the first page of the PDF, margins are 2 cm (0.8 in) and each PDF page ends with a page break. Expect to restyle the result; the words and numbers are what you get.
Read the result before you rely on it. OCR can misread digits and small print, so compare amounts, names and dates with the original. If all you need is to fix a typo, Edit PDF can retype a line where it stands, with no conversion at all. A password-protected file has to go through Unlock PDF first, and a form you mean to type into is better handled by Fill PDF Form.
Questions and answers
Does the Word file keep my PDF's formatting?
In editable mode it keeps text, headings and tables, but not fonts, colors, pictures or column layouts. If the look has to match, choose ‘Exact look (pages as pictures)’. The pages then look identical in Word, but they are pictures and can't be edited.
Why are the pictures from my PDF missing in Word?
Editable mode builds the Word file from text and tables only, so photos, logos and drawings are not copied. The exact look option keeps them as part of each page picture. You can also save a page with PDF to JPG and place the image in Word yourself.
Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?
Yes. Under ‘Text recognition for scanned pages’, select the language or languages of the document (English, Korean, Japanese, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese are offered) before you press ‘Convert to Word’. With none selected, a scanned page comes out blank and the tool reports how many pages had no text.
Can I convert only some pages of a PDF?
Yes. Set ‘Pages to convert’ to ‘Page range’ and enter pages such as 2-4, 7. The Word file holds just those pages, in order.
What if my PDF is password-protected?
The converter cannot read a locked file and will tell you so. Open the PDF with Unlock PDF first, using the password you know, then convert the unlocked copy.
Is it free, and is there a page limit or watermark?
Yes, it is free. There is no account, no watermark and no daily limit. Very long or image-heavy PDFs use a lot of memory, so they convert more comfortably on a computer than on a phone.
