About utilopdf
Who is behind it
utilopdf is a personal project. A single independent developer designs it, maintains it and reads the mail it receives. No company stands behind the site.
The tools, group by group
All 23 tools run in the browser. They sit in five groups, listed here as they appear on the start page.
- Organize: Merge PDF joins PDFs and pictures into one file, in the order you set. Split PDF pulls out chosen pages or cuts a long file into parts. Organize PDF turns, deletes and reorders pages. Crop PDF trims margins. Compress PDF makes the file smaller.
- Convert: PDF to Word, PDF to Excel, PDF to PowerPoint and PDF to HWP (Hangul) rebuild a PDF as an editable document. PDF to JPG saves pages as pictures, PDF to Text keeps only the words in a .txt file, and JPG to PDF puts photos and screenshots into one PDF.
- Edit & sign: Edit PDF rewrites text and adds text, images and shapes. Sign PDF places a drawn, typed or photographed signature. Fill PDF Form completes a form's fields. Watermark PDF, Add Page Numbers and PDF Header & Footer put text or numbers on your pages. Redact PDF removes personal details for good.
- Read: PDF Viewer opens a PDF for reading, searching and printing. PDF OCR recognizes the text on scanned pages and saves a searchable PDF or a text file.
- Lock & unlock: Protect PDF puts a password on a file. Unlock PDF takes off a password you already know and saves an open copy.
Where your documents go
Nowhere. Each tool opens the file on your own computer or phone, does its work there and hands the result back to you. Nothing is uploaded, and the developer never receives a copy.
You need no account, and nothing is stamped on your files. There is no daily limit either; the practical ceiling is the memory of your device, so a long scan may strain a phone where a laptop copes. The privacy policy describes what the browser keeps for a short time: https://utilopdf.com/privacy/
Reading results with care
Some jobs involve interpretation. PDF to Word and PDF to Excel rebuild paragraphs and tables from where the text sits on the page, so fonts and spacing can differ from the original. Text recognition can misread small print, stamps and handwriting. A signature placed with Sign PDF is a picture, not a certificate-based digital signature.
Read a result before you send it or rely on it, and keep your original. If something is plainly wrong, tell the developer at [email protected].
Open-source software
utilopdf stands on open-source libraries, among them the three below. The first OCR run fetches its language data from this site. No AI model files are downloaded.
- Mozilla PDF.js reads PDFs and draws their pages (Apache License 2.0).
- qpdf handles passwords and compression (Apache License 2.0).
- Tesseract OCR recognizes the text in scanned pages (Apache License 2.0).
Supported browsers and languages
The tools run in current Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, on computers and on phones. Pages are available in English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.
